Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 17, 2026 · Last Updated: May 2026

The short version

Your food log lives on your device. If you enable iCloud, it syncs across your Apple devices through your private iCloud account, encrypted by Apple. The developers of Planty never see, collect, or store anything you log. There is no account to create, no email to give us, and no in-app analytics watching what you do as you use the app.

1. Scope and who we are

This Privacy Policy applies to the Planty mobile application (the "App") for iOS. Planty is a tool for tracking the variety of plants you eat. The App exists for general wellness and personal curiosity, and it sits alongside, never in place of, advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

2. What the App stores and where it lives

The App is designed to keep your data with you.

  • On your device: By default, everything you enter into Planty (including food logs, custom plants, plant ratings, plans, grocery lists, your profile, and notification preferences) is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData). The developers have no access to this information.
  • In your iCloud (optional): If you enable iCloud sync for Planty inside your device's iCloud settings, your data is synchronized through your personal iCloud account so it can appear on your other Apple devices, for example an iPad signed in to the same Apple ID. Apple handles the sync and stores the data inside your private iCloud space. The developers lack any ability to decrypt or read it.

3. What we never do

To be very clear, we never:

  • Collect, view, or access your food logs or any other content you create in the App.
  • Require you to create an account, sign in, or give us an email address to use the App.
  • Use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking pixels inside the App.
  • Track your activity across other apps or websites.
  • Sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party, since we lack the data to sell in the first place.
  • Store your personal data on our servers, since we operate no server holding user data.

4. Limited information we may receive outside the App

While the App itself collects nothing from you, a small amount of limited and non-personal information may reach us through standard Apple channels:

  • App Store and TestFlight: Apple provides anonymized and aggregated analytics about installs, sales, crashes, and broad device characteristics such as device model and iOS version. This data offers no way to identify you personally, and it helps us prioritize fixes and improvements over time.
  • In-app purchases: When you unlock Planty as a one-time purchase, the transaction is processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We receive a record of the purchase from Apple, which includes an anonymous transaction identifier and the product purchased, so we can verify entitlement when needed. Your name, payment details, and Apple ID stay between you and Apple.
  • Support communications: If you email us for support, we will see your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use that information only to reply to you and resolve your issue, and your address never makes its way onto any mailing list.

5. How the App uses your on-device or iCloud data

The data you enter is used solely to make the App work, including to:

  • Show you what you have eaten, your unique-plant count, and your fiber and water totals.
  • Calculate personalized targets based on the profile values you entered, namely biological sex, weight, and age.
  • Generate insights, suggestions, and grocery lists from your own log, all computed entirely on your device.
  • Sync your data across your Apple devices when you choose to enable iCloud.

6. Notifications

Planty may ask permission to send local notifications, for example an optional reminder to log your meals. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. You can disable them at any time from your device's Settings → Notifications → Planty. The App sends no push notifications from any server.

7. Your controls

You are in full control of your data. You can:

  • Edit or delete entries: Remove individual logs or custom plants from within the App.
  • Reset everything: Deleting the App from your device removes all locally stored data. If you have iCloud sync enabled, you can also remove Planty data from your iCloud account inside your device's iCloud storage settings.
  • Manage iCloud sync: Enable or disable iCloud sync for Planty at any time inside your device's iCloud settings.
  • Manage notifications: Turn local reminders on or off in iOS Settings.

8. Data retention

Because we keep your data only on your device, and optionally inside your own iCloud, retention sits entirely under your control. Your data lives on your device, and inside your iCloud when enabled, for as long as you use the App or until you delete it yourself. Deleted data is gone for good, since we keep no copy that could restore it.

9. Children's privacy

Planty is intended for adults and is unsuited for children under the age of 13. We knowingly collect no personal information from children under 13 through any channel. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information through a support email, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the "Last Updated" date above changes accordingly. Material changes will be highlighted inside the App or in the App Store release notes, so you can review them at your own pace. Your continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
